I rather haphazardly check otu stocks that look interesting. I always look carefully at the tables in Business Week 4 times a year, especially the end of year one. They can suggest some of my better ideas which I then investigate. Safeway has a lot of debt. They effectively use debt to buy back stock. If interest rates are falling that is a postive for a stock like Safeway. Buffett has said that the CAPM Portfolio Theory doesn't make any sense to him so he doesn't take any notice of beta. David
