It is better to be lucky, than to be good. Demand is down and costs are (relatively) fixed. It is a great time for a former monopolist to create a new monopoly.

Again, I must stress this is not an Intel versus AMD issue. If the dire predictions of the analysts are correct, AMD will be hard put to stay in business.
