FOREIGN MARKETS: The Nikkei closed 0.61% higher while the Hang Seng closed down 0.66%. In Europe, Germany is up 1.81%, France is up 1.69% and the UK is up 1.15%.

MOVERS & SHAKERS:

(AMCC) Applied Micro Circuits reported Q3 after the bell of $0.16/share, beating the First Call consensus of $014/share. They cited 37% sequential growth in communications sales.

(HTCH) Hutchinson Tech reported Q1 after the bell of $0.03/share, 3 cents short of the First Call estimate of $0.06/share. They will be reducing their work force.

(ALSC) Allicance Semiconductor reported Q3 after the bell of $0.26/share, 4 cents better than First Call estimate of $0.22/share

(SBSE) SBS Technologies reported Q2 after the Bell. EPS was $0.32, beating the First Call estimate of $0.29/share.

(RFMD) RF Micro Devices reported Q3 after the bell. EPS was $0.05/share, meeting First Call consensus. They said they see March 2001 revenues down 10% and cited handset industry was in transition. Banc Of America Cuts RF Micro To Buy From Strong Buy

(ELNT) Elantec Semiconductor reported Q1 after the bell. EPS was $0.37/share, 2 cents better than the First Call consensus of $0.35/share.

(HAND) Handspring reported Q2 after the bell. Earnings came in at a loss of $0.7/share, 9 cents better than the First Call estimate for a loss of $0.16/share. Lehman Reiterates Handspring At Buy, $90 Target

(DGX) Quest Diagnostics after the bell revised their guide for 2001 to the upside. They said they see Operating Net of $3.10-$3.20/share. They see Q4 EPS of $0.57-$0.59/share, compared to the First Call estimate of $0.58/share.

(INTC) Intel reported Q4 after the bell. Net was $0.38/share before acquisition costs. First Call consensus was for $0.37/share. They warned for Q1 and said revenues would be down about 15% from Q4 revenues of $8.7bil. Bear Stearns Reiterates Intel At Buy. Salomon Keeps Intel At Outperform, Sees Downside Risk To $25. Lehman Downgrades Intel To Market Perform From Buy

(JNPR) Juniper Networks reported Q4 after the bell. Their proforma earnings came in at $0.24/share, 6 cents better than the First Call estimate for $0.18/share. Sales of its network routers and equipment rose 47% from Q3. They said they see Q1 revenues UP by 12%-15% over Q4. Lehman Reiterates Juniper Networks At Buy, $175 Target (JNPR)

(NVLS) Novellus Systems reported Q4 after the bell. Earnings before items was $0.76/share, beating the consensus of $0.70/share by 6 cents. Q4 income was $104.4 mil an increase of 216%.

(MACR) Macromedia reported Q3 after the bell. Pro forma earnings eas $0.29/share, beating the First Call consensus of $0.27/share by 2 cents. Revenues was $103.3 mil, a 61% increase over revenues of $64.3 mil for the same qtr last year. They also said they will merge with Allaire (ALLR) and swap 0.2 shares plus $3 for each Allaire share.
