Johnd, why are you going on about that? If Intel sold MORE chips for MORE money, that might be good for Microsoft. Why do you seem to think that Microsoft should hope for either diminishing unit sales or shrinking prices? Either way, their business will shrink. With fewer computers, you get shrinking Windows and Office sales. With lower prices, you might or might not have more Windows sales, but you'll have lower Office Sales.
