if we repeat the early 30's wipe-out, industrial output should fall back to levels last seen in the mid '60's within two to three years. however, that's unlikely in view of a repetition of Smooth-Hawley not being in the cards.
but i wouldn't rule out that at some point in the supercycle bear industrial output will have dropped precipitously, and capacity utilization will shrink dramatically. overcapacity is already a big problem for many industries, and that's going to get a lot worse before it gets better.
