The Baby Bells are in a pickle if their "competitors" crash and burn. Ironically, they have more to gain in deregulation if at least some CLECS are viable. They are sophisticated enough to know the biggest prizes require otherwise. It's hard for them to argue they are not monopolies if they continue to dominate telecom locally. Just another factor to consider. It wouldn't surprize me to see some creative JVs or alliances to keep the better ones alive.
