It is
pretty infamous that the Salvation Army sermon comes before the soup. It
is when the government starts using these private agencies that the lines get
fuzzy.


I don't have a problem with sitting through the sermon to get the soup. I'm not even sure I'd mind if the agency were acting on behalf of the government. That's just the price of admission like when you sit through a time-share condo presentation to get the free dinner. People who need free soup may also need the benefit from an inspirational message--or a warm place to sit for a while. The side effects of being inculcated with religious dogma would be the least of their problems.

I'm more concerned about using religious organizations for community services that are more interactive like family planning or drug treatment.
