Surely the SDMC is capable of storing protected data rather than limited to it. Unless the protection mechanism is invoked, the SDMC card will just act like an MMC card. So expect to see the MMC de-emphasized in favor of the SDMC without use of protection. Once the SDMI mess is sorted out (assuming it ever is), music companies will start making their libraries available for a price.

Steve, SanDisk has both a secured storage medium in SDMC...

...and the MMC alternative as well.

And both fit in the same slot.

This can be best explained as good planning by SNDK.
