What a pathetic excuse for a stock. Pathetic volume today foretold the turn-around. I don't know what possessed me to buy it back at 32 1/2 after selling it @ 33 1/4 earlier today. This POS can't even break it's downtrend and some resistance going into earnings.

Conspiracy theories concerning Intel are always justified. But there's also the fact that AMD just doesn't have a lot of leverage in the discussion. In addition to dropping CPU and chipset prices, Intel can drop hints about re-animating Solaris for Itanic and networking chips and whatever other BS. Intel has a lot of cards to play, some touching on Sun's REAL turf. AMD only has one: the Athlon is better in every way than the P3. When was the last time the technical excellence of a point product determined anything when big boys talked? AMD makes a better processor. That doesn't change the fact that Intel just keeps them around so the government stays off their back. With Dubya in the White House and Herr Ashcroft as AG, I wouldn't be surprised to see Intel decide that now's the time to just knock AMD out of the game. Not surprised at all. The Sledgehammer, if it actually gets built and works, will probably be a much more sensible choice from an engineering standpoint than any Itanic. That's an engineering choice. Business choice? How many significant players do you think will sign up to build Hammer-based servers? I'm just talking round numbers. Very round. --QS
