I agree. The classic examples are the newest digital printers that my vendors try to sell me every year. The latest models are ridiculously expensive and fall in price so fast that you are always better off waiting to buy for at least a year. I tell them I can make more money by not buying them then I can by buying them right then.

I had to go do a conference at my old college a while back. One of the other guys on the panel was someone that had been in my photography classes way back when. He ran the digital imaging lab for the intelligence dept within the DOD. It killed me because all the machines that I had been telling these vendors were outrageously too expensive for what they did....he had all of them! Unfortunately when I spend money on technology I have to actually make the money to pay for it! What was really terrible is that almost everything the guy does gets stored in a room the size of several football fields where no one will have access to it for fifty years or more.
