The value of the contract is Cdn$83,6 millions (US$56 million). Should all the options be exercised, the total order would amount Cdn$170,3 millions (US$112.4 million). The Hiawatha Corridor Light Rail, with a length of 19.5 km (12.2 mi) and 15 stations, connects three of the Twin Cities most popular destinations: downtown Minneapolis, Minneapolis/ St. Paul International Airport and the Mall of America in Bloomington. The design of the vehicles will be developed by Bombardier Transportation LRV Center of Expertise for America - located in Mexico- incorporating the best practices and technology achieved by Bombardier in both sides of the Atlantic. Bombardier Transportation's facility based in Sahagun, Mexico, will be responsible for manufacturing the carshells, while the Barre, Vermont's facility will be involved in the final assembly and static testing of the cars. Dynamic testing and commissioning will be done at the customer's facilities in Minneapolis.
