Short trips do the damage to the exhaust system.

Oh, yeah? Let's debate this. I relates to humidity again. It's more humid and colder back there. Therefore more condensation when hot meets cold. Therefore longer trip time to dry it out. Plus, I think the agents that seek and destroy fenders also seek bare steel exhaust parts to some degree. Double whammy.

Anyway, it's partly anecdotal. I've lived in Maryland and visited Michigan plenty. In Maryland I've replaced whole (holy) muffler systems in different cars besides just mufflers. A number of times. It's cyclical there. Like a battery dying every 3 years or so. In 25 years in CA I think I've replaced one muffler. That's it. And I keep cars a long time.

Besides, I've grown to enjoy sparring with you. It's educational.
