Analog Devices sees Q1 earnings below expectations

NORWOOD, Mass., Jan 17 (Reuters) - Analog Devices Inc. (NYSE:ADI - news) on
Wednesday said it sees first-quarter revenues below fourth-quarter results and Wall Street
expectations, due to a slowdown in new order activity and other factors.

The semiconductor maker now believes that revenues for the first quarter of fiscal 2001 will total about $775 million, up about 58 percent from the same period last year and down 4 percent from the fourth quarter of fiscal 2000.

Norwood, Mass.-based Analog Devices sees pro forma earnings, based on those revenue expectations, of about 50 cents per share, double last year's first quarter earnings of 25 cents per share.

Analysts, on average, currently expect the company to earn 58 cents per share for the quarter, according to First Call/Thomson Financial, which tracks such data.

Seems to be a bit of a trend toward issuing warnings late, ie, when no one is around to read 'em!<G>
