Flats, you are trying to fit the facts to suit your politics. And I think you're grasping at straws when you imply that applying hedonic pricing to CPI is somehow disconnected...different...not as scandalous? from what the Dept. of Commerce did with hedonic pricing in relation to GDP. The CPI is corrupted by the Quality Adjustment Method (formerly called the Quality Adjustment Factor), which covers up and hides inflation, and also distorts U.S. Gross Domestic Product and industrial production. So any CPI corruption results in GDP corruption. As you yourself note: It is true that understating product price inflation overstates real GDP and productivity but the hedonic pricing of computers used in computing chain weigthed GDP as reported in the COMMERCE DEPARTMENTS SURVEY OF CURRENT BUSINESS produces scandalous distortions WHICH IMO SERVE ONLY TO DECIEVE the investing public. So your problem is just with the hedonic pricing of computers by Dept. of Commerice? Gee, once the genie is out of the bottle everything is fair game...as we have seen. I challenge you to show me where Boskin recommended that the COMMERCE DEPARTMENT apply hedonic pricing to computers and other products to overstate GDP and productivity. I challenge you to show me where it says they can't do the above. My point was, Let's just all remember this was a bi-partisan screw job which let the genie out of the bottle and produced scandalous distortions WHICH IMO NOT ONLY SERVE TO DECIEVE the investing public, but damn near everyone. Quite the bit of collusion which serves the purposes of both parties and the government.
