Paul Johnson, Communications/Networking

“Juniper reported fiscal fourth quarter results well above published expectations,” said Johnson. “The upside in the quarter was driven by the increase in the number of units shipped (up 77% sequentially). Juniper has produced one of the most impressive revenue growth track records of any company in technology, and we expect this type of performance to continue over the next several quarters. We believe Juniper is continuing to do an excellent job of managing its financial performance despite the very significant sequential revenue growth. Net cash increased by roughly $87.6 million in the quarter. Days sales outstanding (DSO) increased slightly from the prior quarter’s level by roughly two days to 54, due to slightly backend loaded shipments associated with some component shortages in the quarter. Management commented that new orders during the quarter were more linear than the prior quarter. This modest increase is still below the target range of 55-65 days that Juniper believes it will eventually begin to approach. We are significantly raising our estimates for fiscal 2001 because of the solid upside performance in the December quarter. We are also initiating estimates for fiscal 2002. We believe our estimates to be conservative. We are reiterating our Buy rating on the stock.”

Appears they are looking for 25-30% growth between 2001 and 2002. Conservative indeed.

tp,
Statistics can be skewed, and I haven't read the actual reports, but the %'s you refer to don't compare apples to apples, according to other posts I've read. Namely the Dell'oro study compares total JNPR revenues, i.e., hardware and services, to CSCO's hardware sales without accompanying service revenue. If we had that data and it showed the same results, then I would be more apt to look at the situation in the same light that you do.knc

TP...

One thing to consider is JNPR's expanding product line. The M5 and M10 reported revenue for the first time this past quarter. Now I don't imagine these numbers are huge - although I could be wrong - but I have no doubt that they had an effect on market share numbers. So while I agree looking at sequential quarter market share is a way to determine gains on competition - it's a bit more complicated when new products are added. Just something additional to think about.
