David -

...Currently working on a paper on productivity change in the US agricultural sector. ...

My take is that the US agricultural sector is the perfect example of long term, high productivity growth resulting in nearly continuously falling consumer prices, intermittent cyclical profits for the machinery producers and ongoing decimation and massive consolidation of the primary food producers. The enhancement of productivity, when combined with the lack of independent competitive barriers, is almost always an offer that cannot be refused, but which, in the end, is a source of empty calories (if not poison).

Regards, Don

Welcome aboard... can you enlighten as to why you think hedonic adjustments are better than not as opposed to beating around the fringes??
