Willie Brown was the Speaker of the Ca Assembly for years until the voters voted in a Republican majority in the early nineties. The Speaker was going to be a Republican female who somehow voted herself for Willie which gave him the job back even tho the Republicans were in power. The Republican Party got VERY angry with her ( she died about a year ago and they boycotted her funeral )and gave her a bad time as you could expect. She, in turn, made a famous statement about the Republicans in the State Assembly. She called them a bunch of mean spirited men who were angry cause they probably had small p$#^%'s. Willie went his way after term limits and is now the Mayor of San Francisco in his second term. He is liked by some and hated by others. He is a flamboyant man and a truly amazing politician. He is quite a deal maker but tends to use his position to feather his buddy's nests. Someone attacked the stage he was speaking on and threw a pie at Willie.......he actually defended himself by punching the attacker and knocked him down!!!!!! Our former Gov Jerry Brown is the Oakland mayor and yes, he is popular.
