It's not just hot air.

"We are delighted to announce our success in incorporating indium and nitrogen into the base layers of our HBTs."
-- Dr. John C.C. Fan

The doping of the base layer is very important in determining the operational characteristics of HBT devices. The earlier carbon doping technique was an important advance that kick-started commercial application of HBT. That was first developed by Professor Stillman at the University of Illinois and first brought into production by Kopin. So, this new capability could give Kopin an important technical advantage over competitors. The SEP people brought some expertise in GaN, but perhaps this was already in the works. I'm glad to see Kopin aggressively exploring new materials and systems; this will surely lead to new applications as well. I suspect we'll be reading a lot more press releases like this.
