Maybe demand is finally catching up with supply in the component area:

The disk drive market demand remains healthy, although the P.C. market is sluggish. The new appliance markets are showing growth.
The disk drive components markets have been badly hit during the past few years due to the concentration on reducing parts counts on disk drives. Through technical advances, the industry has increased the performance and capacity of the drives, while at the same time reducing component count. As an example, Table 1 indicates the industry forecasts for magnetic heads in 1998, 1999 and 2000. With each forecast, the required number of heads to produce the forecast numbers of drives were reduced. The 2001 numbers were reduced by 43% in a two-year period.>>
