Natural gas companies may absorb a lot of the blame in California even though they have nothing to do with the problem.

The blame may go to them because they are making a ton of money right now. Burlington Resources, for example, delivers 15% of its natural gas to California. If you check their earnings report this morning, you'll notice that they are printing money right now. This may provide the California state gov't with a tempting target, even though the money BR is making has nothing to do with the CA power crisis. This will also, however, exacerbate the long term problem.
