I would suspect that this is simply a separate product category, sold on its subjective and fashionable appeal to a subset of consumers who are willing to ignore its higher prices and safety concerns.

It might slow TFP growth but increase profits. Till everyone was selling "organic" produce. That's just a guess. But I haven't looked at that. There is research on that. It would definitely reduce labor productivity in agriculture.
