Ron, The fed has likely not raised margin requirements because these effect the income of large securities firms. I believe it is just another example of the 'favors' done to insure that select sectors, banking and securities, get every break possible. This is the same kind of backdoor support provided in the hedge fund bailout, the Mexico rescue where large banks found themselves over extended, the abortive attempts to assist banks in the savings and loan scandals, and,now , quite possibly the assistance of BOA ( which I have seen only schetchy info on, but which is beginning to enter the rumor mill)

I understand that there are good arguments for each; but taken as a whole I feel the pattern is clear.
