RE: The problem is that AMD doesn't seem to be able to go for the kill shot and keeps giving Intel a reprieve.

Absolutely my concern as well. On the other hand, AMD cannot afford to have a Y'01 like Intel's Y'00, that is, with recall after problem after snafu. So, given the choice between 2 evils, I'd choose the one AMD has chosen. I just question whether it really is only a choice between 2 evils, or whether it is simply the fact that since they aren't being pushed, they aren't producing (which is a natural human tendency IMO).

If Palomoano, Mustang and Morgan were on time AMD could deliver it. AMD will probably flounder until Intel get the Pee4 to .13u. Then they will go "Wha' happened?".
Meanwhile all they can come up with is a Mobile Duron w/o PowerNow which likely won't put too much of a dent in the mobile market. I will likely eat a lot of batteries though.

I agree that Mobile Duron is underwhelming. However, since they've decided to hold off on Pally/Morgan, what choice do they have? K6-2 is simply running out of life. And, for many people (like myself), power consumption and battery life is not that big a deal for a notebook. Granted, I may be a minority, but I don't think they're planning on getting a majority of sales with the mobile duron. I don't use my notebook on airplanes and other places that don't have an outlet. I use it when I'm away from my main computer (on vacation or trips), and simply sit in close proximity to a plug-in. I haven't even run into a situation yet where I've run the battery down at all.

JJ

P.S. Why do you want to eat batteries? <ggg> [you forgot a 'T']

It's better for everyone if the transition of microprocessor dominance from INTC to AMD is smooth...You know need a soft landing for INTC, or we're all in a lot of hooey!!! :-)!!!
