GV,

for the most part, people aren't willing to pay the short term price for an uncertain long term gain.

We have come a long way since Washington and Jefferson. Any discomfort sends us reeling.

GV,

A clean environment is very good for the economy. Had California not cleaned up their air 30 years ago, Silicon Valley would have happened somewhere else.

GV,

re: "Your grandkids might pay an economic price, but for the most part, people aren't willing to pay the short term price for an uncertain long term gain.'

Sure sounds like the argument I was making about CF light bulbs, only on a broader scale. The infrastructure investment in this country has been way below the need for many years. Just look at the roads, the air traffic system including airports, and now the California energy crisis. But federal, state and local budgets are balanced! Just wait ten years.
