Let's all return to the specific issues. Parties don't want to do
that because you can be fought on issues and not dogma. Both parties tend to be dogmatic


There might be some truth to that but its also true that the parties a seeking to form coalitions. You can't form a stable ruling majority from the strong supporters on one issue. So each party tries to tie a range of different issues together even if sometimes the issues are not strongly related.
