Start your car, let it run 30 seconds and shut it off. Stick your finger in the tailpipe and it will be moist. I've seen cars drip water from the tailpipe before they're warmed up.

Hi loof
When hydrocarbon burns, the two products (from a good clean engine) are carbon dioxide and water. That is why on a cold morning you'll see steam rising from cars that haven't warmed up well, or when the weather is very cold even the ones that are warmed up. The catalytic converter doesn't remove ater vapor. The relative humidity in the exhaust of a normal car is low when the car is good&hot ... but that is a temperature thing.

The Insight is a hybrid but an interesting one. It has a one-liter engine that is used for 100% of cruise and light maneuvering. It has a small (read: lightweight) electric assist package for leaving stop signs and other maneuvers requiring strongish acceleration. The electrics are entirely regenerative thru the braking system - no plugs for outboard chargers!
A really sweet set-up all around.
For highway and expressway travel, i'd expect 99% of all power to come from the piston engine. Since it is burning well under 1 gallon per hour, I am curious about exhaust temps in that model at steady state.
