I don't know what is up with "studs" as I said... but I can assure you, as a resident of the biggest "boomtown" in the U.S. that steel FRAMES are not a factor in homebuilding here... and this is termite central.

This jives with something I just read. One residential contractor who would prefer to use steel can't because he can't afford to take time out to train his framing crews in steel. He's in the middle of a construction boom and needs every framer he's got either on site or working pre-fab in wood.

A trend change is underway. There may be a geographic element to it as well.
