The forest products industry is trying to convince environmentalists that steel is a bad thing with this argument:

The primary argument against steel framing advanced by the forest products industry focuses on the resource depletion and pollution caused by the mining, milling, and fabrication of steel. In addition, the forest products industry points out that wood is a renewable resource, unlike iron.

From what I've read some elements of the environmental movement aren't buying the above argument. They like the recyclable nature of the product. From their perspective it also gives the forest products industry less reason to clear cut, damage habitat and kill the rare stink bug.

Steel isn't a renewable resource? Well, ok, it's not renewable but it's recycleable. What do they think happens to all those cars that get crushed?

They still use steel in cars? I thought they substituted crusted chrome paint to control inflation. -g-
