Sun Micro slightly pulls back 2001 rev forecast
January 18, 2001 5:27:00 PM ET

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan 18 (Reuters) - Sun Microsystems (SUNW) Chief Financial Officer Mike Lehman slightly lowered his revenue growth forecast Thursday to 30-35 percent this fiscal year after what he said was a challenging second quarter.

Sun met Wall Street profit expectations with the second quarter 2001 results Thursday, but slightly missed revenue expectations.

"The clearest statement I can make about Q2 is that we experienced an unexpected downward change in the level of projected demand in the U.S. in the month of December," he said, adding the change came without warning.

Lehman, who previously had said revenues for the year would be in the mid-30 percent range, said third quarter dollar- denominated revenues would be in the same range as the second quarter.

Earnings per share growth rate would be somewhat less than the revenue growth rate in the third and fourth quarters, Lehman said, emphasizing this was consistent with his previous forecasts.

The only other thing I can add is that SUNW continues this forecast AFTER investing big time (and continues to invest big time) in employees, large capital expenditures in new facilities, R&D and the like while maintaining this 30%-35% growth forecast.
