Compaq is also likely to announce that it plans to build the fastest, most powerful supercomputer with computing power of 100 TeraOps, which means it can perform a trillion operations per second, Calandrella said. It could be used for applications such as simulated nuclear testing, weather forecasting, protein splicing and other life sciences computations.

The need for speed boggles the mind. I hope Compaq keeps updating the Alpha chip. I think that's the speed source that gives CPQ the edge on these super projects.
