If you buy into the notion of think like a criminal, then it would seem logical that brokerage houses and trading firms that make their money on volume would like to see a vicious rally and lots of volatility if for no other reason than to increase commissions. If we had not gotten a rally soon people would have pulled out of the market and then they (trading firms) don't make any money. So it doesn't matter where the averages end up, they just want them to move--and move big!
