Oh, I agree. If the exhaust is perfect and leak free, a few ppm are what you're looking at. But for long-term exposure even that is poison.
I remember your heater horror story. gives me the shivers.

Seeing the post that got you curious ... I should have said "the two major products". CO, NOx and trace HCHO will still get by a cat. All are bad for individuals made out of meat. <grin>
