Your friends not looking in the right places. There are plenty of computer systems out there that "beat" the market every year, especially in the options market. As for luck, a little of it never hurt any one, but I doubt thats the only reason Ive been successful.

There has to be more to it than luck I think. Luck could explain a few good trades, but to be consistently successful I tend to think its more than luck. I do think though that there are a lot of traders who play one pattern successfully, and when that pattern changes, their trading goes downhill. But even finding that one pattern had to be more than luck. It takes true skill though to understand how to find new patterns consistently in my opinion. That's where I tend to think a computer would fail.
