It's just amazing that journalists will still publish what they say.

It's doesn't seem amazing if their livelihoods apparently depend on calling analysts directly or paraphrasing their written reports for mass consumption. After all, we might not see some of the research otherwise. Also, from what I've seen, some of the journalists do fairly well in compensation area relative to the run-of-the-mill analyst. That said, they should probably do a better job of evaluating the info before they pass it along.

BTW, the sell-side would argue that their research isn't explicitly intended for the general public. Of course, at the same time, they freely give TV interviews on their trading floors.
