Is the Strong Dollar Policy a Good One???

``Let me say at the outset, I am in favor of a strong dollar,'' O'Neill told the Senate
Finance Committee during his confirmation hearing. ``I can't believe that anyone
would think to the contrary.''

"Anyone" might look at what happened to US manufacturing this fall/winter. Or the monetary crisis in 1998.
The dollar just increased too much for overseas buyers of our manufacturing production. Countries who
have their currencies tied only to ours could not repay their debts.
So while I am not for a weak dollar I do favor reducing major moves both up and down in the dollar, And,
Our promoting a policy for substitution of currency baskets for exclusive pegging by developing countries.
I also would like to see a study on how (effects) to expand the exclusive dollar contract pricing of oil.
