Great post and analysis Jim Kayne. There are some smart folks on this thread, and based on reading one post I think that you are one of them. Very sensible conclusions.

That said, I can see mthomas777 point of view and Ron Reece's. Your position is probably the most realistic, with Ron more on the side of business and mthomas777 on the side of the government.

When there is something fishy going on involving government and big business I usually side with business. Governments put together convenient solutions that sound good to the masses, but often don't account for the necessities that your statement "Nobody was entrusted with the task of having an overview, of projecting future needs from present capabilities, and of creating the conditions where industry could then address the issues: generation, exploration, infrastructure." portrays. Businesses (successful ones anyway) generally think these things through.

Having voters decide issues that are anywhere near this complex would be down right hilarious if I didn't get stuck with the consequences (like gas prices going up $.15/gal in the last 24 hours).

Thanks for your great post on this issue. Hope people don't think we're taking up too much space on the *NEW* fctf.
