Bernie had to know,

Bernie had to know that defaulting G*'s debt to buy time would also cause the current commotion. We might say it had its intended effects. Gilder's optimism for the technology remains. He's "baffled" by others not seeing it as well. His faith in Bernie has been crushed. :(
Perhaps everybody just expected a bit too much too soon. With a little patience and some savvy marketing, G*'s birds will make its investors quite happy. What's killing us now is a lack of faith in the people involved. The technology still has plenty of promise.

Sincerely,
Marty

Blaine K <He didn't foresee SP misbehavior, and neither did we. G* either didn't tell him the truth or lied to him >

Here is an out take of a Y* post of mine regarding my view of your..... Gilder didn't forsee SP misbehavior theory...

From Yahoo....

Actually, there was all kinds of indications that "the partners" were not acting like "partners". Your first hint was the need to Vendor Finance Gateways and User Terminals to some of the Service Providers.. I mean, if they were behind this 100%, you would have thought that they would have at least coughed up the cash for a Gateway.. or at least re-paid the Vendor Financing when the cash was needed!!

It's like a friend of mine that asked me about a business deal that someone approached them with. They wanted him to "produce" a product for them.. And as a result of his "investment" of producing this "product".. He would recieve "a cut" of the overall sales of the product!! I told him.. NO!!! Don't do it!! Because if they don't have the resources to pay you to produce the product.. Then they sure as hell don't have the resources to properly market the product. He proceeded with the Venture anyway.. He finished the product, and his "partners" kept coming back with modifications, which required additional investment on his part.. His "partners" said.. "Look, you already have X amount of dollars in this thing.. Do you want to lose it? Or, just make the changes and it could be a winner!!".. Again I told him ... "Walk Away".. He did the changes anyway!! In the end.. He lost all of his investment because their was not enough resources to properly market the device. His "partners" had contributed almost NO CASH to the project. He had to write the whole thing off!!

It runs a similar "parallel" with Globalstar.. Where GLP was willing to do everything for some of the SP's to get them into the program "Like China Telecom".. i.e. Vendor Finance Gateways, Installation, New feature sets,etc.. And when they were ready to start selling the service.. The Service Providers came back to GLP for funds for co-op marketing.. They always had their hands out for "More Financial Support"..

If you wanted an indication that "partners" were not behaving as "partners".. Then that should have been a "BIG FLASHING RED LIGHT".

The entire context is here..
