DMP,

I saw someone from SUNW saying that the blackouts cost about $1 million per MINUTE!

When you think about it, the Tech companies are sapping the energy resources more and more in CA. I think there is a definite short fall possibility here. Most of them are using NA Gas generator's, which didn't turn out to be a cheaper alternative after all (this year at least).

I know some retail business owners in No. CA who have had to shut down because of the b/o, not costing them a mil, but sales are starting to squeeze (and jump if you sell candles and battery's.)

On rolling blackouts... yesterday evening CNBC had a utility expert (not analyst!) on who said greatest danger in rolling blackouts is not modest inconvenience of hour or 90 minute shutdown, but that blackouts have a high risk of becoming uncontrolled... transmission lines are overloaded, with near bankruptcy of utilities repair of equipment is minimal, etc. The entire electric grid for all states west of the Rockies is in serious risk of a major collapse because of what is happening in CA. Near term, conservation is the only answer.

pretty scary!
