Well if you want to take ODB's Ayn Rand luvin side of Greenspan to the extreme, he would want to create a financial time bomb to blow up the current system ASAP. Remember in Atlas Shrugged when all the great ones went off to their lil hidden valley they were going to stay there until the rest of the world came undone, then they would emerge and put it back together right. The Chilean dude even went so far as to sabotage his own business and others to hasten the fall of the current corrupt system. Hmmmm, I could respect Greenspan sooo much if that's what he's up to, and not just some past his prime crazy man. CMB

I too have been thinking of Greenspan's motives lately and find them quite puzzling. Here a few possibilities that I have come up with. 1. Because he knows the current system of fiat money is a malingering disease that is slowly sucking the life out of good, honest, hard-working people, he has decided to scorch the earth to rid it of the disease and then rebuild with a better system? 2. He is using the world economy as his private laboratory where he is testing his economic theories. Example: He thinks he could have stopped the great depression. To prove it he first had to create a giant bubble. Now he can see if he can actually stop it from bursting. What could more fun? 3. He is senile.
