And as I learned in law school, there is no such thing as a "co-conspirator" since conspiracy by definition is "co". I suspect some lousy journalist from the NYTimes, the Washington Post or, in your case, the Boston Globe (NYT), immortalized that particular nugget of ignorance. Which, of course, is lost in the sea of ignorance they promote on a daily basis.
