Given those %ages, I would agree that humidity isn't significant. And I agree, as I originally implied and got challenged on (I'll be quietISH about who), that exterior factors are the difference.

Hybrids are the way to go IMO. There's no infrastructure for Electric only. They don't have nor are they likely to have anytime soon enough range so it's needed. No EV plugs at workplaces, anywhere basically. How do you get an apartment or condo complex to install them? You don't just plug into a 110 outlet as I understand it. And how do you charge for the power used? Credit card readers, I suppose, subject to downtime and all the occasional unpleasantness. It's just a huge hassle for almost everyone. This doesn't even consider the fact that the power grid couldn't make up for the loss of all these gas driven 4 wheel power plants.

With hybrids, the infrastructure's already in place. Forget all the above complications.

A company in Hollister, CA makes a single occupant all electric 3-wheeler! with an advertised range of 60 miles. So that probably really means 45. I'd consider it but the range might get me to work, but it wouldn't get me back. Of course, like a motorcycle, kiss it off if you ever get in a wreck.

An alternate clean source of power: fuel cells one day.

A gasoline powered auto is about 5 % efficiency. Electric power production from oil is at least 40 per cent efficient. Transmission and battery recharging > 85%, and the electric motor is 85+, so an electric car running on CA electricity is about five times as efficient as a gasoline car. Your mileage may vary.

<<This leaves ... hmmmm .... oh yeah. NUKES! Fission fission rah rah rah! Yaaaaay - TEAM! >>

I heard where you capped user rates at 3.5 cents per kilowatt. And you want power? Only down in TVA land. We pay 11 cents per. Got all we want.

Nuke plants. I used to fish around two in Wisconsin, built in the early 70s. Cost $150 mil, still humming like bees and making electricity. Late 70s one was built at Clinton. Regulations jumped the price to $4 BILLION. Doesn't work as well.

Carter nixed breeder reactors which are cheaper and safer.
