Those familiar with Clinton's Arkansas history are fully aware that he became a Rhodes Scholar for assiduously currying the favor of Arkansas Senator Fulbright and not for anything remotely resembling academic distinction, as his Yale and Oxford grades clearly indicate. Basically, he used his formidable interpersonal skills and tenacity to "charm" his way into a Rhodes scholarship.

He's a Rhodes Scholar. That counts a lot in our society and deserves all the regard we should give it.

We had a former mayor that was a Rhodes Scholar. I remember one of his most vocal political opponents quoted in the press as saying, "He thinks he's so smart because he went to Rhodes." When I heard that comment the picture of a small beautiful Greek Island popped into my head. Except I didn't see any guys running around in mortar boards.
