I was trying to reprint that great chart in your Roger Babson link, but formatting it was giving me fits. For anyone who missed the article, it showed that the total debt to GDP ratio continued rising right through the 1929 crash. It went from 180% of GDP at the start of the crash in 1929 to over 280% in the early 1930s, because GDP shrank more than debt.
