Amy, RE: Is the 1,000 vs 48 figure correct? Or, was that a ST aberration? i.e. what exactly is the estimated cost from the standpoint of LT?

The current prices are a short term aberration. The price of natural gas right now is significantly higher than it has ever been, and is higher than it will be for a long time.

But as far as long term market clearing price, I have no idea. The best solution in my mind would be to let the market find its proper level, and at the same time create some kind of fund to subsidize low income families.

Why doesn't the government simply get out of the way with the pricing structure?

Because the government fears free markets. Take a look at the lawsuit filed by the city of San Francisco. It is highly anti-capitalist.

Who are these folks?

Outside of Jim McM, I don't know. Index funds are the biggest owners of EIX and PCG stock, which probably means a pretty diverse shareholder base.

Btw, why wouldn't you issue stock to a lawyer?

The probability of getting sued goes up exponentially when the stock gets issued.

Amy, <I disagree. It depends upon the type of the business. Electricity is a larger portion of costs for a manufacturing company, but not for a software company, where electricity is a small portion of the overall cost of doing business.>

Higher energy costs contributes to a higher cost of living. It's going to be that much harder to convince working talent to move to California if utility bills are much higher than, say, Colorado.

<Better to have reliable, expensive power than highly expensive downtime.>

Tell that to the Californians who still think it's all a hoax put on by the big bad power companies.

Litwick.com, a website specialized in candlestick analysis, just issued their daily lists (1/19) for stocks showing bullish and bearish signals.

Intel scored high in three categories - all bullish signals.

* by reliability (high reiability - "three side up")

* by volume

* by change

We shall see soon enough whether this is true.
