People sure do like to stick their noses into other people's business.

A bizarre story.

Here's a true story about what a friend of ours did for his son.

I don't remember how old the boy was, but I suppose he was 18 or so. It's possible he was 17.

The father became aware that his son was deeply depressed. After some time, weeks, the boy finally told his worried Dad why he was in this state.

He thought he was sexually "abnormal." He wondered if he were gay, since he had tried a number of times to have sexual relations with the girl he was dating and been impotent, though he had no sexual interest in males.

He was distraught. Crying.

His father told him he just had to relax.

The kid couldn't relax.

The father finally called a friend of his. This person recommended a young woman who was a nice person, intelligent and sensitive, and who would understand the situation, understand what her job was (the psychological aspect of it, since the father was convinced the son was just totally terrified and undermined by his unfortunate first, failed, attempts to have sex), and for money would spend an evening with the kid. She wasn't a real pro -- she had a shop -- but had a sideline, and was healthy.

An assignation was set up. The boy was scared out of his wits, but this very nice person shows up with some wine and some grass, and in a few hours, the boy was cured for life.

That was about ten years ago. He's a happily married father now and thinks he has the smartest dad on earth.

I suppose our friend might have sent him to an analyst for five years, or told him premarital sex was evil, or sent him for pastoral counseling.
