There was some minor shuffling in the top 10, with Pacific Century CyberWorks losing its #1 spot to newcomer DEKA Research and Development Corp. Sony also debuted this week, at #3. News stories about the mysterious "Ginger" invention by DEKA's president Dean Kamen, and Sony's announcement to form a new semiconductor company out of three of its existing units could best explain both companies' first-time appearances on the Hoover's 50 list. No stranger to the list, Cisco Systems bounced up to #7 this week, from #18. BAE Systems tumbled out the #8 spot, down to #36. The Hoover's 50 is a weekly list of the companies most often researched on the businessperson's portal Hoover's Online (www.hoovers.com) by more than 3 million regular users. Gilat Satellite Networks (22) entered the Hoover's Top 50 this week. General Electric owns 20% of the satellite earth station builder. After making a recent layoff announcement, Motorola jumped from #36 to #16 this week.
