"Oil, Gas Rig Count Up by Seven"

Friday January 19 6:50 PM ET

HOUSTON (AP) - The number of rigs actively exploring for oil and natural gas in the United States increased by seven to 1,128 this week.

Of the rigs running nationwide, 887 were exploring for gas, 240 were looking for oil and one was listed as miscellaneous, Houston-based Baker Hughes Inc. reported Friday.

A year ago, the rig count was at 777.

Baker Hughes has kept track of the count since 1944. The tally peaked at 4,530 on Dec. 28, 1981, during the height of the oil boom, but set several record lows in 1999, bottoming out at 488 on April 23, 1999.

Of the major oil- and gas-producing states, Louisiana gained 11 rigs, Texas gained three and Wyoming two. Oklahoma lost nine rigs, California and New Mexico lost one each and Alaska's total remained unchanged.

Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" come to life. So perfect it's unbelievable.

>> the commission said "state law clearly requires utilities to serve their customers, and a threatened bankruptcy filing or threat of insolvency does not change that obligation." <<

Maybe they will show up with guns when the utilities run out of gas. Maybe they will arrest the officers of the companies and throw them in jail. Maybe they will whine and demand and point fingers, and cry to their neighbors for more freebies while the lights go slowly out across California, one at a time.

>> "We will continue to provide all electric service that is available from the power sellers to the citizens and businesses of California," she said. <<

How is she going to do that.. with Hot Air ???

On second thought, I think she could manage..
