e-mail VRTS.. it was basically a continuation of yesterday's trigger Message 15210230 It took me a while to find out what VRTS post you were referring to through all the postings on SI today. Yes based on compilation of news, yesterday's triggers, pre-market activity we do post which plays might look the best even before the open.
which might have triggered not only as earnings related but because of the following on January 18:

TWAV,EXFO,CORV,MUSE,MERQ, EMLX,MRCY,TXCC, ELNT,MSFT,AHAA, CMRC, SANM were some Market Gems "HIGHLIGHT" swing trade earnings plays this week. CMRC, GSPN,SNDK, IDTI, ELNT, TLGD, and ADTK were actually the first longer term hold we picked up early this month and it was quite a gain in just a week. We were short IDTI on Friday, but will be prepared to reenter after a pullback. Whether anyone holds through earnings or not our strategy is simply a swing trade on "Anticipatory Upswing" 1-4 days BEFORE the earnings report, profit taking and than you might elect to pick up a small option or stock position through the report.

We choose to enter and hold only companies that have proven they indeed have reasonably solid earnings now and more importantly GOING FORWARD. We are not holding companies with negative guidance. We like MSFT, EMC, NT and IBM as well. Software old favorites like MACR and ADBE we have ADBE on watch for reentry and MACR maybe if it climbs and stays above stubborn resistance at 32. We are very bullish on SYMC with only a 17 p/e ratio for long term hold, we are waiting for a little more pullback. We are long PUMA and PKTR as well. Little stocks with a lot of "zing" PKTR had a most amazing few days. We are sizing up more TINY stocks for next week. LPTH still looking as a hot prospect and IMCO our play on the fuel cell sector.

One we like for Monday is PVTL. Hopefully PVTL will be another TWAV or EXFO. We wait and see signs of "Anticipatory Upswing" on Monday as PVTL reports after the close. One disappointment I must say was SUNW, with disappointing earnings got that one off the list for time being. We keep the 'winners' on the top and look at losers like SUNW and PLCM for maybe a dead cat bounce when they have finished smarting from their wounds. Still getting a lot of "bounce" out of NUFO and we will be watching IWOV Monday for signs of anticipation as well. NTIQ is a holder so far we think this one has proven itself finally. WEBM and EXFO look like potential shorts

We elected not to hold IWOV through the weekend although we expect it to have a good week come Monday if the market finishes this short-term overbought pullback.
