"The good news: the Dell owners manual for my XPRS400 has clear details for changing the battery"

ah ha! very good!

"The bad news: I will have to restore the correct settings to the system setup program"

fwiw, my dell manual says to make a copy of the screens in the system setup program, then to refer to the appendix for instructions on how to restore the correct settings later.

it would be nice if it was only the system time and date settings that you needed to restore.

let us know

:)

The worst that could happen is that your system won't boot.

Just go through your BIOS setup and record what you find. It should only take a minute or two, but could save hours.

Cheers, PW.

If you have a digital camera just snap photos of the screens, quicker than writing down the info. The photos turn out very well.

I have changed batteries before, not that big of a deal.

I tell you I don't know what I would do without a digital camera, ever try and explain something to someone? I do it with photos.

Ever complain to a contractor that you were not 100% satisfied with some work? Show them photos, and they will hop right to it and fix the problem.

Something about photos, sure gets the people motivated.

If you get one, buy a large CF Card, because when you take pictures for free, not hard to take 70 (or more) pictures in a day.
