Not having been exposed to these issues in the past, and lately reading on the subject, mostly because it has been posted here, i find myself amazed at how some people can be so hurtful towards children. yes i have been aware of the problem but it has never been "close to me" before. an eye opener to say the least, and something that makes me step back and think about child education at an early age, including the sexual part (i refer to the link in my prior post, where a "preventing plan" is suggested. see at the bottom of the website):aap.org i think that interacting with the parents may even be some kind of "preventing measure" since the potential abuser would "think twice" given that s/he would feel somewhat exposed if s/he were to attempt it, knowing that the child has a form of expressing to an outsider. This is unfortunate, because, IMO, hypnosis can be a very useful tool in the right hands and under the right circumstances. in addition, the insistence of religious authorities to view sex as a taboo frustrates me. as an example is the Catholic Church continuous opposition to a more open and liberal form of sexual education. i find even more amazing the fact that their priests and "brothers/sisters" do not even marry. how could they know ANYTHING about having children and the problems that educating them may present? why is it that people would want to use a priest as a "counselor", particularly in family matters, is beyond me. just in the basis of family planing & contraception, i am certain that far too many unwanted children would not be born in the first place. i bet that a good percentage of the abused children are indeed "unwanted" in the first place. it sounds like a vicious circle to me. --talk about "stopping a problem at its source"-- do i have a "fixiation" against the Church(es), particularly the Catholic one ? well, maybe, but in my eyes very well justified. in that respect...i am mad as hell and won't take their cr@ap any more when will they ever open their eyes at what is happening every single day (particularly in the 3rd world) ? they preach so much "love" and all the rest, yet their policies influence far too strongly their membership and do nothing practical about it. meanwhile they keep on reproducing senselessly. as Steven indicates, the statistics are deceiving, well... i imagine in most third world countries there ain't much statistics to even be deceived with. (imagine what the real picture may be?)
